On beginnings

This is a start.

The beginning of a transformation.

Prompted by a nudge from Nature.

It's an interior wall originally painted blue in a bid to let the outside world in,
to recreate the sea and the sky in solid form.

Speckled by damp that crept in from porous walls,
bringing the coldness and the reality of fresh air into a protected space.

It's a wall in transition, set in motion by cold winds and countless raindrops,
picked at with a scraper and a chisel.

An intentional continuation of a scar.

It's liberation from the stifling need for perfection.

Willful destruction and release.

This is DIY as meditation.

Stunted, messy, mistake-riddled improvement.

Progress via improvised process.

Potential in imperfection.

Stripping this wall is teaching me to feel what and where attention is needed.

With every pain and push of a shoulder that tries too hard against a patch that doesn't want to give

I'm learning where to glide and to enjoy the judders.

To go patiently.

To move with steady force.

Plotting a route but being receptive to where the wall directs me.

Respecting the spore-softened bruises

Seeing the art in the abstraction.

This will take a while.

But it's a start. The rest will follow.
